We've arrived!

Just to say that we have all arrived safely in India.

Looking forward to hearing how it's all going and hopefully seeing some photos. Unfortunately I will just miss you as I don't reach India until Thursday 15th! Mrs Dunsford

Jama Masjid Mosque

The largest and one of the most magnificent mosques in India, built in 1658 with a capacity to hold over 20,000 people. Dinner at our hotel

Monday 4 April

Sightseeing in New Delhi

We start with the Qutab Minar, at 234 feet it is the highest individual tower in the world. We will have a chance to view Parliament House as we drive past, and stop at India Gate for an introduction and photograph. Time permitting; we can visit Birla Mandir (Hindu Temple), the Sikh Temple or Lotus Temple

By train from Delhi to Amritsar

Amritsar

Amritsar is home to the Golden Temple, the spiritual and cultural centre of the Sikh religion. Dinner at our hotel in Amritsar

Tuesday 5 April

Golden Temple

The holiest shrine for the Sikhs, so called because the entire upper half was inlaid with copper covered over by gold plate

Jallianwala Bagh

Here, on 13 April 1919, British troops led by General Dyer fired upon a group of assembled people, including women and children. A memorial plaque at the entrance recounts the history of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre

Wagh Border

The final frontier, this is the only border crossing between India and Pakistan. It is an interesting experience especially at sunset when the 'Retreat' ceremony takes place on the Indian side of the border. The changing of the guard and the ceremonial lowering of the flags ceremony is carried out with great pomp. Dinner at our hotel

Dharamshala

Dharamsala is one of the principal towns of Kangra valley and is set in the backdrop of snow clad peaks of Dahuladhar mountains amidst magnificient deodar and pine forests, tea gardens and beautiful hills. It is also known as 'The Lhasa of India'. Today Dharamsala has become synonymous to the Tibetan government in exile.

Mcleod Ganj

This is where the residence of the Dalai Lama is located. The Tibetan Government-in-exile has been here for over three decades. Dinner at our hotel in Dharamasala

Thursday 7 April

Tibetan Sights

The Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), Tibetan Medical Centre, Tibetan Library at Khangchen Kyishong, Dip Tse Chokling Monastery and the SOS village school. We can also take a short hike to local villages in the Himalayas. Dinner at our hotel

Friday 8 April

Sunday 10 April

Taj Mahal

A highlight of the tour is the world-famous Taj Mahal, constructed by emperor Shah Jehan as a mausoleum for his beloved Queen, Mumtaz Mahal

Agra Fort

Visit to the red sandstone Agra Fort, which stands like a crescent on the banks of the Jamuna River, enclosed by forbidding 20-metre high walls, with a 12- metre moat between them. Private coach for our transfer to the Delhi. Dinner at our hotel in Delhi
